The Roundtable
On October 5, 2006, PLEDC hosted a Roundtable Community Forum in
response to community demands for a greater voice in the process by
which Lamport Stadium is being redeveloped.
The
Forum was convened in order to create an opportunity for a dialogue on
the future of the stadium. The meeting took place at the stadium
itself, 1151 King St West, East of Dufferin and King (see map).
Community
residents, business owners, and sports groups that use the facility
gathered to informally discus the issues around the future use of the
site as well as the largely exclusionary approach that has marred the
planning process to date. The meeting generated a diverse set of
ideas. Ranging from more green spaces to mixed-use commercial and
community sports facilities.
A report
based on the outcome of this meeting will be presented to the
appropriate municipal planning and executive authorities on October
26th 2006.
Background
Lamport Stadium, located on King Street near Dufferin is a large tier
II open-air facility with a seating capacity of 9600. Over 30 years
old, the building is in a state of disrepair. The plans call for a
bidding process that would see the request for expressions of interest
and a short list of bidders finalized by end of November 2006.
