Recent Exhibitions, Work AND Education: For 2009 / 2010 I participated in (or am registered to) in The Gift Giving Shows (juried), Art Among the Ruins, Funky Art & Craft Show (juried), Kollaboration (invitation only) at the Sandra Whitton Gallery, The New Art Festival in Ottawa (juried), the Maker’s Hand (juried) and the Kingston Arts Council Juried Art Salon. I am currently the featured jewellery artist for April at the Ontario Crafts Council Gallery on Queen West.
On top of creating my own work I teach wirework, metalsmithing and jewellery design at St. Lawrence College and the Lapidary Club. I also am a board member of the Arts Council, founder of the Kingston Artist Directory and the Artist Roundtable Discussion Group.
Artist Statement: All of my work incorporates pure, unaltered glass found on the shores of the great lakes and oceans. I find my inspiration from nature, spending a lot of time on the beach or shorelines with my head down. Growing up my family used to imagine wonderful stories of how each piece of glass was a treasure from a pirate ship or from a fancy ship such as the Titanic. Now with the shift from glassware to plastics and improved recycling programs it is becoming increasingly difficult to find beach glass. As these ‘gems’ become more rare, I feel I am doing my part to reduce, reuse and recycle someone else’s garbage into beautiful works of art.
Recent Exhibitions, Work AND Education: One of a Kind Toronto, Muskoka Craft Show, Circle Craft Vancouver are just a few shows we do.
Artist Statement: My focus is to promote green living through my art. Glass is a wonderful product to recycle and with ingenuity and creativity one of a kind pieces are developed.
Recent Exhibitions, Work AND Education: Shown at:
LG Fashion Week, March 2010; Queen West Art Crawl 2009; Art Market @ 918 Bathurst 2009; Speakeasy 2008
Artist Statement: I believe it is my use of ambiguous and unexpected materials that differentiates my work from that of other designers; in transforming what most would call waste – rusted metal, industrial, salvaged and antique items – my pieces not only recall the first life of each object, the footprint originally stamped in its creation and use, but also suggest the infinite possibilities for its reuse. I seek to boldly ask the world, “What is beautiful? What is valuable? What might you be overlooking?”
Recent Exhibitions, Work AND Education: I am a self-taught photographer who has exhibited frequently in the Toronto area in the last few years.
