Artist Statement: I am a milliner using flat-pattern dressmaking technique. I use silks, linens, cottons and wools in the body of my hats and ribbons and flowers as decorations. The hats in vintage magazines and movies inspire me to incorporate that style in my work but redesigned to appeal to today's woman. I also re-work old hats and vintage trims into one of a kind cocktail hats.
Recent Exhibitions, Work AND Education: Speakeasy at the Gladstone, Drawing and Painting Show; Art at the Castle, Casa Loma; Queen West Art Crawl; Propeller Gallery, Forbidden Fruit; BLVD Interiors; Czehoski; One of A Kind Christmas Show; G+ Gallery
Artist Statement: Painting is my passion, my teacher, and my purpose.
My work is driven by intensity and grip of emotional experiences. I seek to encapsulate these ideas, and represent as if each emotion, each tactile sense, association, smell, or memory is ground up and poured out, in liquid form across my canvas. The end result sought within bold textures and strong lines, is the bareness of emotion as it translates into living and expressing an existence, authentic, bright, and naked.
Recent Exhibitions, Work AND Education: I have been a professional craftsperson for over 15 years and have made my living entirely from my artwork. I am represented by 7 galleries and have exhibited in solo and group shows throughout Ontario, including the One of a kind, Cabbagetown Arts and Crafts and many more. I have displayed my work at QWAC since the very first show and would be thrilled to join once again this year.
Recent Exhibitions, Work AND Education: EDUCATION: September 2004 - October 2007 York University, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Honours; January 2001 - April 2004 Nipissing University, Bachelor of Arts, English. RECENT EXHIBITIONS: Bazaar of the Bizarre, October 2009 and April 2010, Toronto, Ontario; Trap Door Boutique, March to July 2010, Toronto, Ontario; Art in the Village, 2007-2010, Toronto, Ontario; Insomnia Cafe, September 2010, Toronto, Ontario.
Artist Statement: My background in English and illustration has contributed to my love of character and storytelling, which informs all of my paintings. I paint animals and people almost exclusively, and am motivated by my joy in creating a character with mood and expression, who can gaze back out from the canvas.
My work incorporates a variety of different textures that I have developed through experimentation with different media. Some paintings have an aged, weathered look, while others are fresh and bright.
