My collection can be described as funky, feminine and functional characterized by designs made with natural stones, silver, gold and other exceptional materials handpicked from markets in Thailand and other international locations. Beading and wire working techniques were used to create my initial collections but as I saw the design possibilities available when making my own beads, clasps and findings I dedicated my time to learning a variety of metalsmithing and wax carving techniques. After many hours of practice, I have now combined my silver creations and beading designs.

Artist Statement: Artist’s Statement - Fiona Bailey
I am curious. I enjoy gathering materials and combining processes in unexpected ways.
I am a creator. My art enables me to explore my thoughts, emotions and ideas in a physical way; I can make an idea and hold it in my hands.
I am an observer. Intrigued by mementos of every day life, I incorporate and draw ideas from my daily surroundings.

Artist Statement: My work is a reflection of the urban environment and my place within it. Taking inspiration from the people I encounter, the discarded objects that I find or from the architecture, fences and signs that mark my path on a daily basis. I incorporate these things into my work, juxtaposing found industrial objects with the handmade to create objects of irony. My pieces have a playful, impractical quality that contradicts the functional purpose of industrial made parts.
Recent Exhibitions, Work AND Education: Martha studied film animation at Concordia University in Montreal, and now works in a variety of mediums, including: sculpture, mixed media and film animation. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and film festivals across America and Europe, including: Peak gallery, Propeller Centre for the Visual Arts, the Montreal World Film festival, The Vancouver International Film Festival, SOHO 20, Encounters with films and others.
Martha’s work has been supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, and the National film Board of Canada.
Artist Statement: Common themes that run through my work include layers and human manipulation. Everyone is made up of layers and we reveal or mask our experiences in varying degrees. What is presented on the surface is not always indicative of the inside.
The Remnant series uses chocolate as an emotional symbol in various stages of destruction, excavation and reconstruction. The broken shards are reassembled in whole structures different from their original incarnation. This is symbolic of how we bury, excavated and piece ourselves back together again, after falling apart.
Recent Exhibitions, Work AND Education: Lately I've been collaborating on design work with comic publishers such as first second, and festivals such as the Toronto Comic Arts Festival. Recent shows include the Rated R show, and a fundraiser to help support Urban Bard productions. I was trained as a designer at OCAD, and have worked in places such as the Banff New Media Institute, been a panelist speaker at FITC, and helped out with things like Toronto's Indie Game Cabinet.
Artist Statement: Having lived my entire life amongst the bricks and concrete of Toronto's west end, I've developed what I feel is a hypersensitivity to the natural world - a world that is foreign to me, inaccessible in my daily life, and thus truly inspiring. Small, natural wonders - the simple, unnecessarily beautiful, and perfect forms of branches, acorns, and leaves - are the subject of my work. In fabricating and casting such objects in metal, I attempt to preserve these otherwise temporal treasures and transform them into permanent ornaments for my urban landscape.
Recent Exhibitions, Work AND Education: I have been supporting myself as an artist for the past seven years; I am entirely self taught. I have exhibited my work at exhibitions throughout the world.
My work is on display at Made You Look Jewellery (1273 Queen West) as well as The Potter’s Studio (Maynooth, ON)
My recent exhibitions are:
Afrofest (July 2009)
Green Earth Festival (September 2009)
Toronto Island Christmas Art Boutique (Nov 2009)
Bloomin Earth Art Show and Sale (April 2010)
Artist Statement: My life began in a small hamlet on the banks of a river . Growing up surrounded by natural and historic wonders - jungles, rivers and lakes, mountains and ancient ruins, was a wonderful environment for the beginning of an artist’s life.
My jewellery is made in the artesania tradition. Artesania is a collective art - not representative of any one country or culture. This, along with its minimalist creation, makes it my perfect form of expression - it is something I can make wherever I am, without needing any equipment beyond my creativity and a pair of scissors.

Artist Statement: My passion for painting landscapes stems from a desire to evoke the sense of serenity and beauty that nature instills in me. Rural and wild places are cherished as they induce a meditative calm, a removal from the distractions of everyday life.
I’m interested in the unfolding drama of light and shadow in combination with the graphic abstract qualities of the landscape.
My painting is, above all, an exercise in trying to look at the world with fresh eyes and, hopefully, a unique perspective.
