TRAINING/EDUCATION
Have formal training in large format photography in US and 35mm photography at Ryerson
Recent Exhibitions, Work AND Education: I have been photographing seriously for less than two years. In summer 2009, I was hired to photograph a professional international music concert at The Government - a photo of the concert was published in the Canadian Jewish News. I recently applied to the Toronto Public Library for my work to be exhibited at a local branch. I am currently in the process of displaying my work at Yorkville’s ‘Crepes a GoGo’. On an ongoing basis, I continue to develop and update my Adobe Photoshop retouching and image manipulation skills, which allows me to add a multimedia element to my work.
Artist Statement: I photograph in order to capture moments and subjects that would otherwise go unnoticed. I strive to simplify or distill my subjects to their essential elements and form, to abstract them from their original context or function, to view them in a new context, and attempt to transform their meaning for the viewer. I am drawn to textures, patterns, simple lines and shapes, and am compelled to find the innate orderliness of things. I enjoy photographing my backyard, neighbourhood, and community. My hope is to reveal the extraordinary in ordinary things.

Artist Statement: My paintings explore the relationships between our constructed and natural environments. As humans we carve out our living spaces everywhere, anywhere. We constantly struggle to control nature. If we neglect to maintain our hold it creeps in with equal determination. We distance ourselves further and further from nature, attempting to carve out contained living spaces. I wonder about the destruction we inflict, the futility of our efforts for dominance and how we live in increasing disharmony with our surroundings. With our growing population we continue to distance ourselves from our environment and each other.
Recent Exhibitions, Work AND Education: My recent shows consist of: Solo: Broadview Espresso (Dec 2009), The Spill (Nov 2009), Mercury Espresso (in association with RAW, June 2009). UTSC (Oct 2009), "Insomnia" Red Head Gallery (Sept 2009). I am the Manager and Curator of art work hung at Broadview Espresso.
Artist Statement: Heaney's current body of work is broken up into four separate series, all of which tackle portions of her underlying theme: self examination during paternal compensation, while maintaining a balanced co-habitation between classical skills and conceptual themes. Her work, influenced by a family death, is a series of her experiences broken down and captured using different methods of portraiture, iconographic images and humour.
