Artist Statement: I infuse my 15+ years of design experience with a sense of spirit and preservation to adorn women in jewelry that combines sustainability with style. My designs are internationally recognized for their versatile use, off-beat yet classy look and environmental nod. In my chemical free studio I implement traditional metalsmithing techniques, and use sterling silver to breathe new life into reclaimed, natural and fair trade stones. My inspiration comes from the people I meet in my many travels. New work includes hand-forged recycled silver detachable letter pendants and reconstructed vintage pieces inspired from my recent Vegas wedding.

Artist Statement: I enjoy working with beads, semi-precious stones and pearls with sterling silver wire, often hammered. I previously ran a photography business and also did stained-glass. I believe there is a commonality in all these mediums that hopefully will come out in my jewelry. I work part-time at the Globe and Mail as a Graphic Artist and live in Newcastle, outside of Toronto, with my husband and two children.

My body of work represents a series of nostalgic paintings where colourful, repeating, overlapping mixed media images play with patterns, memory and rural icons. The old photographs incorporated in the works are reminiscent of our pasts and evoke different personal memories for each of us.

Artist Statement: Stephen Schaffer’s most recent paintings of silhouetted landscapes contain gestural line work and shapes that fall in the middle ground between abstraction and representation. Some are blue and moody set in the winter landscapes, others are colourful like stained glass and mosaics, all of these landscapes are inspired by the spirit of nature. His earlier series of huge, closely cropped faces and flowers are inspired by intricate symbolic connections between floral blooming and femininity. In his work, the perfection of larger-than-life images speaks to a subliminal world of transient, intoxicating splendour. The serene simplicity of powerful compositions reinforced by bold, pure colours communicates simultaneously the timelessness and transience of beauty. These paintings of flowers and women are in dialogue with each other. He goes on to transform and juxtapose seductive images of women from mass media with flowers to reveal the eternal, other-worldly perfection hidden behind glamour shots.
Schaffer uses oil paints and glazes, combining contemporary techniques with the methods of old masters to achieve an internal glowing quality in his paintings. He uses thin transparent glazes and varnishes to ensure that there is maximum light refraction from the surface of the painting. More recently he has been experimenting with thick textures and applications of paints to enrich the surface of his paintings and achieve a stained glass effect in some of his landscape paintings.
Schaffer studied fine art at the University of Guelph completing an honours degree with a specialization in oil painting. Later he spent a number of years working in the Far East painting and exhibiting work that reflected his travelling experiences. The underlying theme of his art is engagement with form, whether it is the transparent petals of a blooming flower, the undulating shapes of a striking landscape or the tantalizing contours in a close-up of a woman. He returned to Canada and completed a Masters degree in art at the University of Victoria. Schaffer has exhibited in Canada and internationally. He is currently living in Toronto working in oil and encaustic from his downtown studio.

Artist Statement: "I became an artist to translate the surrounding world into my own language. I transform my emotions into art pieces which can say about me more than anything else. The only time I am truly content is when I have a chance to create. My paintings are an emotional manifesto, which emphasize the ultimate visual impact. My uncontrolled imagination is a crucial part of my work and the greatest formation of my visual language. I use my brush as powerful tool of self-expression. I transform simple and refined shapes into dramatic scenery of graceful forms , brilliant colours and texture. This is where they all together become a true reflection of forever changing world."
